TCF & TEF Canada Score to NCLC and CRS Calculator

Enter your scores, see your NCLC level in each skill and how many Express Entry CRS points your French is worth.

How the calculation works

Your scores are converted with the IRCC equivalency charts, from NCLC 5 to NCLC 10 (TEF writing and speaking from NCLC 7). CRS points are computed for French as your second official language: 1 point per skill at NCLC 5 or 6, 3 at NCLC 7 or 8, 6 at NCLC 9 or more. If French is your first official language, the points are higher. With a provincial nomination (600 points), the French bonus does not add to your score, because additional points are capped at 600.

How many CRS points is French worth in Express Entry?

With English as your first official language, French adds up to 24 points (22 with a spouse): 3 points per skill at NCLC 7 or 8 and 6 points per skill at NCLC 9 or more. On top of that, NCLC 7 in all four French skills gives 50 additional points if your English is CLB 5 or higher, or 25 points otherwise.

What TCF Canada score do I need for NCLC 7?

Listening 458 to 502, reading 453 to 498, and 10 or 11 out of 20 in writing and speaking.

What TEF Canada score do I need for NCLC 7?

For tests taken from December 10, 2023: listening and reading 434 to 461, writing 428 to 471 and speaking 456 to 493, out of 699.

Do I need NCLC 7 for French-language Express Entry draws?

Yes. French-language proficiency category draws require at least NCLC 7 in all four skills.
